We are currently looking for a Technical Manager – RMX / Concrete to join and lead our amazing RMX (Readymix) Technical team based from our Tarmac Hub Office located at our Mountsorrel Quarry, near Loughborough in Leicestershire. Covering the Midlands region RMX plants, this role is easily commutable from Loughborough, Leicester, Stafford, Melton Mowbray, Grantham, Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Derby, Nottingham, Tamworth, Lichfield, Sheffield or the surrounding areas.

The role of Technical Manager – RMX / Concrete is based on the Tarmac hybrid working model, so will be a mix of office, site and home working – flexibility is key to obtaining the balance for all.

Main Responsibilities

Leading and Managing the Technical Team, the Technical Manager – RMX / Concrete will be fundamental in providing the directive for the provision of a range of quality assured products to our customers, working towards minimal remedial issues to maximise profit margin whilst driving optimisation with mix designs, manufacturing processes and laboratory standardisation, offering Technical guidance to the wider business. Along with this you will be a leader and mentor to your team, providing them with both the physical and knowledge tools to be the best that they can be as individuals – sound good?  Well, it is and so are you.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Have a proven track record of successful people management, management of technical operations, delivering projects and managing budgets
  • Promoting the technical management system, ensuring the application of technical procedures, methods and best practices
  • Lead, manage, coach, mentor and develop a team of technicians, optimising engagement and overall team performance; through defining and agreeing expected performance indicators for on-going personal and professional development
  • Lead in resolving complex technical issues or failures as they arise; whether directly or by supporting operational teams
  • Continuous review of processes and performance, identifying gaps, root causes and subsequent improvement activity
  • Manage and develop third party relationships, ensuring effective contracts are in place and demonstrate best value
  • Ensure that Health & Safety is the number one priority at all levels of the team
  • Responsible for optimising the sampling and testing processes/procedures to ensure maximum effectiveness for the products and for resourcing
  • Stay informed with technological advancements, regularly benchmarking against competitors’ strategy to ensure our levels of innovation remain top
  • Ensure full compliance with the relevant regulatory body and accreditation guidelines as well as keeping all other systems and processes within company policies and statutory requirements

Key Stakeholders - National Technical Teams and all Technicians - Wider RMX function (Commercial / Customer Service / Operations) - Key Customers - Regulatory Bodies (The Concrete Society / Mineral Products Association / Institute of Quarrying)

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant in the role of Technical Manager – RMX / Concrete will be instrumental in the future development and support of the technical culture to achieve the benefits available through business strategies. You will have experience as a Technical Manager – RMX / Concrete within a similar industry and line management experience will be essential.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • ESSENTIAL - Recognised Concrete Production related Qualification (UoD/ Concrete Society etc) with CPD maintained membership
  • ESSENTIAL - Previous experience in a concrete related role including extensive testing experience, product development and other mineral products
  • Challenge people, hold them accountable for job completion and quality of completion
  • Strongly Computer literate - familiarity with computer software (word, excel, etc)
  • Good communication skills, with a positive, proactive can - do attitude to your team and others, flexing your style to suit the audience
  • Continuous Improvement techniques, Lean methodology, Six Sigma, FMEA and Root Cause Analysis investigative methods
  • Planning and organisation, anticipating obstacles and implementing solutions

This role comes with a vehicle, so you must hold a FULL UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
