Tarmac are recruiting an Energy Strategy Manager to influence and develop our ability to reduce the energy consumed to ensure that the business has a long-term sustainable future. This exciting role will focus on the development and successful implementation of our energy strategy to reduce our energy consumption aligned with business goals including optimising energy use, enhancing sustainability, and driving cost efficiencies across the organisation. Whether you are based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Cambridge or London, this is a nationwide role so we can be flexible to suit you.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the National Operations Director the role of Energy Strategy Manager will be responsible for identifying innovative solutions to either generate energy or to reduce our energy consumption and drive cost efficiencies within the organisation.

The role of Energy Strategy Manager will also be responsible for:

  • Help identify, prioritise and deliver opportunities to generate green energy in a sustainable and economical fashion including the potential benefits of solar and wind power
  • Working with procurement function to identify optimum energy sources
  • Understanding energy tariffs and develop and implementing the energy strategy
  • Reporting energy performance to senior management
  • Ensuring site targets are agreed, reviewed and aligned as part of budget process
  • Researching and understanding proposed government and technological innovations and proposing funding strategies for long term energy optimisation
  • Engaging and influencing key stakeholders including suppliers, government departments and external bodies to understand and drive innovative, cost effective solutions
  • Developing tools and techniques to lower energy consumption
  • Monitoring and tracking progress of current energy reduction programmes
  • Investigating new and innovative solutions to reduce the company’s energy needs
  • Supporting the development of case studies to demonstrate comparative energy sources
  • Working with CRH teams on energy proposals and share best practice

 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Energy Strategy Manager will demonstrate a passion for sustainability and driving positive change in energy practices. You will preferably have proven experience of successfully developing and implementing sustainability and energy optimisation solutions within a manufacturing environment.

Suitable candidates for the role of Energy Strategy Manager will also demonstrate:

  • Degree in Energy Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (advantageous)
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive, innovative approach to energy management
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and trends and able to drive results through Optimisation and Continuous Improvement
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across departments and with external partners
  • Simplifies processes for operations
  • Ability to develop and execute the energy strategy aligned with business goals
  • Confidence to identify emerging trends and technologies in energy management and sustainability
  • Commitment to communicate energy strategy and initiatives to stakeholders, including senior management, employees, and external partners
  • Proven ability to network with energy suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry associations
  • Understanding of process into government network and regulatory bodies – funding opportunities and support
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
